Failure to provide Release of Lien
|
"We contacted Westlake Financial to obtain a Release of Lien for a vehicle we paid off over 10 years ago but for which the DMV still showed a lien by WFS. We contacted WFS and was told to contact a third-party company in order to get that document. The cost to have the third-party provide that document would be $45.00. I spoke with person after person and department after department and all I got was "sorry, but we can't provide that information to you. You will need to contact mytitlesupport.com". Our loan was through WFS, not a third-party vendor. That document should have been provided to us by WFS as a matter of course. The customer service was deplorable. They refused to help saying that they provided all of their records to the third-party vendor and we had to contact them and pay whatever fee they charged if we wanted that document. When I asked them to contact the third-party vendor on our behalf and get the document for us since we were their customer, they refused. We are trying to sell this car and cannot do so until they provide the Release of Lien. Without it, we cannot get a clear Title and transfer the title to the new owner. This kind of conduct should not be tolerated and there should be some recourse for the customer.
We also had another car that we were getting a Release of Lien on but this was with a different lending company. With that company, we had one telephone conversation, requested the information, and was able to pick it up the same day at no charge to us. That is how it should have been done by WFS which can only leave me to believe that WFS is an unethical business focused only on their profits with little interest in helping its customers. I would never recommend using this company in any circumstance.
