I was given a price of $4500 by Jeff Kerley (Wes Cal, LLC) to remove carpet throughout my 1000 home and lay down floating bamboo. I was to give him $2000 at start of project.
He started work July 20th, giving me an estimate for $4600 ($100 more than original) requesting a check for $2800 ($800 more than originally agreed). After taking up the carpet he found a small crack in the foundation, which he said needed to be repaired. I asked him what it would cost and he said "not much." He never did give me a price although I told him that I needed to know the cost because I may have to cancel the job.
He completed job reasonably well by July 29th (used big screws instead of nails, cutting the wood incorrectly, leaving gaps of over 1 inch from the wall). July 30th he showed up and corrected the mistakes that he had originally made with my floor. I saw his final invoice and he was charging me an additional $1198.00 for repairing the crack in the floor. I told him that I would have cancelled the complete job if he had informed me of the repair cost. I also told him that $1198 didn't sound the same as "NOT MUCH" which was what he originally said the cost would be. He asked how much I could give him and I gave him a further $300. On August 4th he came to my home demanding the rest of the money. When I told him that I had no other money he immediately said that he would be putting a lien on my home.
This is definitely not the way to do good business. Very disappointed with the way he conducted business with me.
UPDATE: HE PHONED AND WAS ABUSIVE, ALSO SENT ME A MECHANIC'S LIEN IN THE MAIL. GOOD GOING, JEFF. DISGUSTING.
