I had a coupon for a 35.00 vent cleaning. A 3-man crew came out to do the the work. They inspected the vents prior to the cleaning in which they had one guy go way back into the attic to inspect the ducting. He said that he would not be able to do the cleaning as there were several ducts that were damaged, etc. He explained that alot of them were collapsed or disconnected from the main housing which I saw and concurred. The 3rd guy that was crawling back there then came back with a cell phone photo of a broken vent in the recesses of the attic. It looked like a giant rat hole eaten inside the vent.
He told me all ducts would have to replaced and he quoted me 2,500 to do so. He even brought in a sample of the new ducting he would install and he assured me was 'green' meaning no fiberglass, etc. in it. He showed me a brochure which was from a different manufacturer and insisted it was the same. Later I find out that same ducting can be bought at home depot for a $1 per foot and it contains fiberglass.
The guys would not leave my house and and were double teaming me trying to get me to commit at reduced prices and 'free' services. I did not and the only way to get them out was to promise them I would call them back. They were very insistant and aggressive and trying to create a confusing situation with the three of them.
I had another guy do the job for less then half the price and he said there was no duct that was eaten by rats which indicated the picture they showed me was from another job.
Watch out consumers!
