Review 4/29/2008
|
I booked a move with Starving Students on April 4, 2008. I spoke with a Terry Mark out of their corporate headquarters in LA. I was quoted a rate of $79 an hour in addition to a 20 percent surcharge for gas and workers compensation. Terry and I both verbally agreed to these costs and booked my move for Saturday, April 26, 2008. Terry and I also discussed that I would receive 10 dollars off my final bill for looking at their services online (I received a code that I provided Terry with from their website). Not only did I not receive 10 dollars off, as promised by the company, when the movers arrived at my house on April 26, 2008 - their rate had jumped to $99 an hour. After nearly a hour of back and forth with the Oakland branch, while my two moving men were standing outside doing nothing, and after having to be 'negotiated' with (offered a price of $89 a hour), Starving Students finally decided to do the right thing and give me my previously agreed upon rate of $79 a hour. However, while the back and forth was going on between myself and corporate, the two moving men were outside, and it is my belief that the Oakland branch informed the 2 men to use as many packing supplies and shrink wrap as possible for my 4 mile move, to make up for the price per hour difference. Upon completion of my job, I was shocked to learn that not only was I charged an additional hour (while the moving men were standing outside while I spoke with corporate) but I was charged $32.91 for packing supplies most of which were NOT used as well as $24.95 for a stretch wrap service that I was never told I would have to pay additional money toward - like I mentioned above, I moved 4 miles up the street and would not have had my items shrink wrapped.
I feel extremely used and abused by this company and wish they would rectify their mistake by re-imbursing me for 1 hour of work as well as the packing supplies, stretch wrap cost and my 10 dollar rebate.
