Scam Charges
|
Schumacher Cargo was hired as a subcontractor of a subcontractor of a shipment for a move we recently made from London to Atlanta. We paid our shipper all the costs in full up front. We were contacted by Schumacher after our personal items arrived at the US port and told that they were applying a long carry fee of $484 for walking 90ft instead of 75ft on a full container. They instructed us that if we didn't pay immediately they would charge late fees and storage fees and would hold our personal items indefinitely or dispose of them. We contacted our shipper who reached out to them and confirmed we were paid in full and should not be charge. In addition, Schumacher Cargo's terms listed that delivery into a house, unwrapping furniture, and disposing of waste was included. They did not perform any of these services and refused to offer them. They also charged for a full container when ours was documented as 2/3 full and after agreeing to refund part of the fee once proof was provided. The first delivery of the shipment was canceled by Schumacher after waiting 3 hours for the delivery due to their logistical error. The second scheduled delivery was late as well. They sent 2 people to unload a 40ft storage container without even a hand truck. We got one for the pair unloading the truck so they could complete the job. I strongly recommend thinking twice before doing business with this company. I would also recommend confirming with your shipper that they do not allow this company to subcontract.
