Criminal!
|
This company is, at best, fraudulent, and at worst, criminal. We gave them a detailed list of our belongings (including photos) and received a cost estimate based on a weight estimate. We were told that 50% of this estimate would be due on pick up. When the movers came to pick up our belongings (several hours late) they demanded more money AFTER everything was loaded in the truck. They said this was due to the fact that our belongings weighed more (which was a basic guess since there were no scales present). According to the department of transportation this is ILLEGAL. However, since our stuff was essentially hijacked at this point we paid additional $$$. I immediately called the supervisor (Dave) who hung up on me when I started pointing out my rights from the DOT website. At this point, my stuff was on the truck heading towards LA. When I called Dave back he was irate, and told me that he was going to dump my stuff back at the pick-up point because he didn’t want to deal with me anymore. This was FINE by me; I was ready to eat the deposit in order to get my stuff away from these shady people. Nobody ever came at the designated location, and when I tried to call the office to see where the truck was the office phone was shut off. Since this was the start of a 3 day weekend I couldn’t get a hold of anyone for days. Incredibly stressful, to say the least.
My belongings were eventually delivered (2 weeks later than scheduled), but I ended up paying about 70% more than the original “estimate” (also illegal). The only possible positive thing that could come from this experience is if I could warn off other potential victims from this outrageously shady operation. Dave is a complete jerk with ZERO customer service skills. I called the local police to try and file criminal charges, but found out this has to go through the civil circuit. Dave knows that once your prized belongings are on his truck he can dive into your wallet because most people won’t bother taking him to court. The only way to shut him down is to turn business away from him.
