FRAUD, SCAM… Do Not Use This Company
Shame on you Prestige Moving & Storage Inc. For Your Bait and Switch business model and brining my mother to tears!!
My parents are currently being scammed for more than $10,720 after hiring Prestige to move them from CA. to NC!!
On April 17th my parents agreed (Via Email) to a moving charge of $3,740.00 in which they specified the amount of furniture determined by the number of rooms and the exact moving location for millage. The price was to include everything, including loading and unloading AND disassembly.
The pickup date was yesterday, Sat. April 23rd. My mother spent a final grueling night to have everything properly packed for moving as specified in the agreement. Tired and exhausted she was met at the door by an aggressive man who told her to “sign here” so they could hurry and get started.
Once in the door the scam began. My parents are elderly and were physically unequipped to handle everything that happened next…
The movers, WITHOUT Permission re-taped boxes that were already packed, taped and secured. ** They were charged for 85 Rolls of Tape**
After informing my mother that the bags full of linen were unacceptable and that they would have to be boxed, she sent my father to purchase additional boxes. Moving to quickly for my parents to keep up with and taking advantage of them running around to accomplish everything they; WITHOUT Permission, placed the bags into the boxes my dad had purchased. ** They were charged for boxes they had already purchased and labor (placing the bags into boxes) they did not ask for**.
My parents packed the TV to their specifications but WITHOUT Permission they added more cardboard and tape **They were charged for 34 boxes not used & 7 charges for glass when my mother only authorized one glass pack (the coffee table)**
The other glass charges were for the shelves in a china cabinet. My mother struggled to pack the glass to their specs. so when the mover VOLUNTEERED to help my mother wrap them; she assumed he was being a gentleman to handicapped older women. Had she known he was going to charge her $328.00 for using cardboard to cover the glass shelves, which she had already started covering with HER OWN cardboard she would have surely refused his so-called kind gesture.
** They were charged $1,600 for their so-called labor and material that was never agreed upon **
The list of fraudulent charges goes on and on.
---- They took items my mother specified to leave behind and re-packed what was already sufficiently packed AND PRESENTED A BILL OF $10,720, a $6,980 difference in the price quoted!! ---
My mother tried to reason with the con man but he sensed her distress and prayed upon it. She argued that she had never given permission for additional labor or materials outside of the quote (other than the coffee table glass) but he simply prayed upon her fear: of not making her airplane the next day, and having to come up with another way of getting 20 years of memories and belongings to NC.
The final con was scaring my mother into believing that the truck weighed over 11 tons and that he could take her to a weigh station to prove it but then she could get stuck with WELL OVER $10,000. If you look at other reviews you will see this same scam done to lots of other people.
My mother spent the next hour crying in the bathroom overwhelmed about what was happening. She felt as if her belongings were being held for ransom as they were already on the truck.
Exhausted and in distress my parents agreed to Prestige’s final scam price of over $9,500. A bait and switch at its finest!!
I am currently posting Prestige’s scam everywhere and will keep you informed of my parents experience.
My mother came to my home in tears after the debacle they had experienced. It was our last day together before they moved far away and it was ruined with sadness and anger.
No one should ever have to see their mother cry the way I had to. I would not wish this horrible experience on anyone. BEWARE! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!
Update: The problem has been resolved.
