TRUST ME, THIS MAY BE LONG, BUT IT IS WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY READING IT!!!!! I ordered a bedroom set from an internet furniture store called Metropolitan Designs (a.k.a. The Discount Furniture Warehouse.net) located in California. After paying for the furniture with my AMEX card, Discover card and Discover gift cards, the furniture was delivered 7 weeks later. It arrived damaged and used. I refused delivery as instructed by Jose’ from Metropolitan Designs. The delivery men even noticed the damaged and extremely poor workmanship of the furniture and commented that all of it looked as though it was bought and sent back prior. There were puddles of stain, deep scratches, warped tops, warped rails, split trim, repairs with a furniture crayon and etc.. The furniture was sent back to the shipping warehouse where the “Furniture Doctor” inspected the set and said it could not be repaired. I then contacted Metropolitan and they said I would receive a refund or I could apply the money towards another purchase as the set I ordered was discontinued and not available any longer. I tried to purchase another set that was quoted to me at the same price as the defective one, but the salesman, Lloyd, said he couldn’t honor the price he quoted after checking with the manager, Jeff. I was then promised a full refund. After a few days went by and not seeing a credit on my charge cards nor any check in the mail, I called back and was switched to Carla. She was to handle the refund. She told me that she was processing the credit card refunds and would be issuing me a check for the $960 for the Discover gift cards. I told her that I needed the credits issued soon as the closing date on my cards were coming soon. She conferred with Jeff and he said to “dispute” the charges so there would be no interest incurred. I also asked her where the check was and she told me that she had it made out and it was awaiting a signature from Jeff. At that point she also told me there would be a service fee passed along to me that Discover charges them (3%) and that as per Jeff, it would be subtracted from my refund. I refuted their claim that Discover charges them for the gift cards and told them I would check with Discover. I checked with Discover and they told me that there is no fees attached to the gift cards and they are treated as cash. When I called back to Metropolitan and spoke with Carla, she said that Jeff stated that they get charged and that I would have to accept the 3% fee. She also said Jeff was mad that I disputed the charges and asked why I would do that as it now costs them additional money. I explained to Carla that it was under direction of Jeff that I disputed the charges. I had a bad feeling about the whole situation, so I decided to try and cut my losses and agree to the 3% fee. Carla said she would have the check in the mail that day. A week later and no check. I called and asked for Carla several times and was told each time that she was either out of the building or on another call. I would then ask for Lloyd and when I would finally get him (by using a false name), he would say it was between Jeff and myself. I consistently called asking for Jeff, but was told he was not available and would call me back. I never received a call back. It was not until a Saturday that I called and asked for Carla of Lloyd that Jeff answered and said neither was available but could he help me. He did no t know it was me calling and he was very polite. When I did tell him who it was, he became very irate and belligerent. He told me there was nothing wrong with the set and that I would not be getting a refund. I told him I have pictures and witnesses that say different. He told me that the bedroom set was in their warehouse and that he would look at it again and call me back. NO CALL BACK! I decided to use the UAW attorneys and sue Metropolitan Designs. I won the case for them not returning n my money; however, enforcement of the judgment does not fall under the jurisdiction of Michigan. I once again tried to reason with them and spoke to Jeff this past February. He then agreed to let me use the refund amount towards the purchase of living room tables. He said that he was turning it over to Lloyd and that whatever we agreed on would be ok with him. Lloyd sent me some pictures coffee and end tables and I said they would work fine and needed a final price and what the availability was. Lloyd was not returning my calls and eventually went on vacation to Laos. When Lloyd did return, I called again and was told by him that everything had to go through Jeff, as he was told to just basically pacify me. Jeff would not get on the phone, so I e-mailed Jeff, Lloyd, Carla & Jose and told them what I thought of them all. Jeff responded to the e-mail and said that the issue was closed as far as he was concerned. I wrote back and reminded him that if the issue were closed, why did he agree to the $960 furniture credit? He did not respond, so I started an e-mail chain letter campaign warning as many as possible not to shop there. I have since called back to Metropolitan Designs and spoke to Carla and asked if she and everyone else there had received my e-mail and she responded “oh yes”! She said that Lloyd no longer works there and that Jeff would call me back. Each time someone was to call me back I verified that they had the correct numbers. I have plenty of pictures, witnesses, shippers, the actual Discover gift cards and receipts to prove that the furniture was trash. Now all I need is some help to get the final $960 back. These guys are scam artist and need to be stopped. Shopsome where else to save your time, money and get what you're paying for. You Don't have to believe me, call them, see what they say. Contact me and I'll send you a copy of the "judgment" against them.
