My hours were cut at work as a result of an injury and my husband’s income was often up and down since he worked in construction. We have two children, also… so trying to provide for them and cover our expenses with a loss that amounted to 20% of our previous income was a huge blow… especially when our utilities began to rise along with property taxes… and the interest rates on our credit cards went up. We tried doing everything that we could to avoid making the phone call we knew we had to make to get help… we used our savings… cut back on activities for our kids… but we were exhausted and couldn’t go on. Although it hasn’t been easy, I would definitely recommend Matthews Law Firm to any friend or family member faced with a similar situation that wants, like we did, to avoid filing bankruptcy.
Our counselor explained that the process is usually painless but that yes – creditors will call and they cannot stop the calls. I couldn’t expect them to stop them completely anyway… we made the debt. However, I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders with the help and guidance of my counselor. She is knowledgeable and resourceful and is helping us through a time we never would have known what to do without the help we have gotten.
We enrolled six credit card accounts, have settled two and are on our way to settle a third!! I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel and am thankful for the help.
