WITH ONE MAJOR EXCEPTION MY NEW LEXUS 2012RX 450h IS A WONDERFUL VEHICLE IN MANY WAYS . THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN APPROACHING YOUR DESTINATION. THE GPS SYSTEM DOES NOT INFORM YOU WHETHER IT'S LOCATED ON THE LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS AND QUITE HONESTLY I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THIS LEXUS HAD I KNOWN THIS VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE WAS MISSING. I CONTACTED CUSTOMER SATISFACTION INQUIRIES@LEXUS.COM AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO UPDATES ARE PLANNED FOR THE SYSTEM.
NOVEMBER 10TH-SINCE POSTING THIS REVIEW I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE GPS SYSTEM WORKS DIFFERENTLY FOR DIFFERENT "TYPES" OF ADDRESSES. FIRST OF ALL, IF ONE INPUTS A POINT OF INTEREST (SOMETHING THAT ALREADY EXISTS IN THE GPS MEMORY), THE INSTRUCTIONS WILL SAY: YOUR DESTINATION IS AHEAD ON THE LEFT OR ON THE RIGHT. HOWEVER, IF ONE INPUTS A DESTINATION AT HOME (THEN SENDS IT TO THE CAR VIA THE DOWNLOAD ABILITY)OR IF ONE RECEIVES AN ADDRESS VIA THE DESTINATION ASSIST FEATURE, THE VOICE DOES NOT TELL YOU WHETHER THE DESTINATION IS APPROACHING ON THE RIGHT OR ON THE LEFT. I FEEL THAT NO MATTER HOW A DESTINATION IS ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM, ONE SHOULD ALWAYS BE INFORMED WHETHER THAT DESTINATION IS APPROACHING ON THE RIGHT OR ON THE LEFT. (MY CELL PHONE'S GPS SYSTEM HAS ALWAYS TOLD ME ON WHAT SIDE OF THE ROAD MY DESTINATION IS.)
NOVEMBER 19TH-THANKS TO A RECENT FIRMWARE UPDATE MOST OF THE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN RESOLVED BY MANUALLY INPUTTING AN ADDRESS. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS WHEN YOU TRY TO INPUT AN ADDRESS USING A HOME COMPUTER (eDESTINATION)OR DESTINATION ASSIST.HOPEFULLY AN UPDATE TO THE SYSTEM WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON TO FULLY CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
