Review 12/15/2009
Nations Choice Moving and Storage contracted Legal Transportation, Inc. to move my household goods from Memphis, Tn to Clyde, NC. The problem began when LTI arrived with a 53' truck that had already picked up a load that was 7,400 lbs overweight (Oct 24th). I had estimated our weight to be between 8,000-9,000 lbs. Because of the first pick-up, there was not enough room on the truck for my goods. I imagine the first customer is very happy with LTI unless he was surprised by the additional cost. Because I had to be out of my house in three days and LTI didn't have a truck available to pick up the remaining household goods, I had (at my expense - $762.05 plus $200 gas) to rent a U-Haul truck and trailer to move the rest of my goods and pull my pick-up truck (590 mi). On the receiving end they had to store my goods in Atlanta until I closed on my new house (Oct 30th). After several calls to Rosita to ascertain when we could expect delivery, she gave me the driver's cell, and I was told to expect delivery Nov. 7th about 6 PM. At 7 PM I received a call from the driver saying he could not negotiate a turn to my house. It was pitch black, so I suggested he try again in the morning. I even went and picked him up at the Truck Stop to come look at the turn in the daylight. He still said he couldn't make it. It's strange to me that we have a trailer park located just beyond this turn, and they were able to make the turn. More curious, is why did they pick up my goods in another 53' trailer when it was only 8400 lbs? Oh, I know! Any extra expense is charged to the customer as explained in the contract. Again I had to pay for a U-Haul and their labor to remove my goods to a smaller truck ($702). I signed a contract that completely relieves the moving company from any responsibility for verifying their route. Shame on me, but I do not understand how a professional moving company would put their drivers at risk on a novice's estimate of weight and road clearance. I do understand their business of reduced cost and efficient use of space on trucks; however, why would they not check for road hazards and potential bottlenecks in a mountainous area? They did not even know that I-40 was closed in North Carolina due to a rock slide. To place these requirements on a customer is utterly ridiculous; however, it appears to be common practice. Just because they can legally separate themselves from this responsibility by contract, doesn't mean they should point at their contract and say, "See it's your responsibility." And then receive an A+ BBB rating. Oh, but that is just what happens! As long as they respond to the inquiry and can point to their contract, case closed! Buyer beware!

Business's response - by legal t.on 1/7/2010
We are in response to Mr. Johns Williams’s letter dated 11/19/2009 on BBB site And would like to take the opportunity to address his concerns Legal transportation Inc. is very proud of its fine reputation in the Moving industry. We do so by providing outstanding service and customer satisfaction. We strive to exceed our customers expectations and in doing so have many repeat clientele. Rebuttal: The sequence of events Our company has been contracted by Nations Choice to relocate 8000 lbs of HHG for Mr. Williams moving from Memphis TN to Ashville, NC with a 10/23 -10/25 pick up date and 10/25-10/26 delivery date. With special notes: customer knows a 53ft tractor trailer will pick up. When Legal Transportation truck arrived in Memphis, TN we found out that the customer had way more then he originally claimed. (Mr. Williams did not provide an inventory list to Nations Choice so his sales representative had to go by the weight declared by customer). We fulfilled our part of the contract picking 8500 lbs worth of HHG, but 3500 lbs were left behind as the move turned out to 25% more then anticipated. Our company did not have another truck in TN area and Mr. Williams was offered to have another moving company do a separate move for the rest of his HHG, but he chose to rent a U-Haul truck and haul his items as it was just 490 miles move. Next day when the truck was on route to the delivery in Ashville, NC Mr. Williams called and informed us that the sale of his house in TN did not go threw and thus he can not close on his new house in NC. Totally unexpected our company had to look for storage facility to be able to store the goods in transit in Atlanta, GA, until Mr. Williams will be able to accept his goods. 7 days later we received a call from Mr. Williams informing us that he is waiting for the delivery in NC. We try to accommodate all our customers’ requests and worked a schedule for the first available truck in TX to come over to Atlanta
