I strongly recommend that people NOT do business with Greengeeks. I went with them originally because they use wind power.. but I have found out the hard way there is far more to hosting than being green. Their customer services is absolutely horrid, especially their affiliate marketing department.. which by the way I was told by another person who works for GG, is handled personally by Trey Gardner, who also happens to be the owner of the company. He responds to emails if, and when he wants to apparently, because I haven't gotten replies to my inquiries more often than I have.
In general, I've had problems with their billing people being hugely rude, their server security being lax, their personnel lying to me and treating me like a criminal, and they are now apparently trying to steal affiliate commissions from me. To give you a few examples; My websites were hacked recently and they acted like I was the one doing the phishing and they completely closed my account. All that was necessary was for them to send me an email regarding the problem so I could go in and find the files and delete them... but instead I was treated like a criminal and had to email them to get access to my own account so that I could get it taken care of. All they would do to help was to run a scan, so I had to find and remove all of the hackers files myself.
Fortunately I knew what I was doing and found them all, but it still took me three weeks to get it all taken care of because their security is so lax that the hacker kept getting in and adding more, and they kept shutting my account down. Also, when I asked about their security compared to another host I was interviewing at the time, one of the support people lied to me about it. I know this because another told me later that they in fact did NOT have that level of security but that at some time in the future they would upgrade. I also emailed Trey about this, and once again he did not reply.
In addition, they also have not paid the affiliate commissions they owe me and to date they are over three weeks late. Out of the last three referrals that I've made to Greengeeks who told me they purchased an account through my link, NONE were credited to my account. It appears that they've set up their affiliate program so that not all purchases are registered to their affiliate partners. I can't prove this of course.. but it looks pretty fishy to me. Also, after I discovered the latest one, I wrote to Trey about it but he would not reply to my queries. I appears to me like I caught him with his hand in the cookie jar and he didn't know how to respond so he didn't.
So after getting no replies from him, I wrote to support and they told me eventually that it has been resolved and that I would be paid, however, that was also a lie because it was not, and has not been paid. I've since written both to Trey and to support and NO ONE bothers to reply to my emails at all. The last person whom I referred to them even wrote to Trey personally and told him that he made the purchase through my link, but Trey has still refused to pay or to respond.
In short, Greengeeks has NO integrity, they have TERRIBLE customer service, their servers are vulnerable to attack by hackers, they are liars, and apparently they are also thieves. Whomever decides to do business with them definitely will be doing so at their own peril.
