A fire protection company does not independently inspect a building without being called by the business owner or building owner. They do not have the authority to inspect your business if you or the landlord did not call for an inspection. Don't let them inspect your business, unless it's the local fire department. The local fire department generally does not charge for routine inspections. The landlord generally maintains the fire protection systems throughout the premises.
This company came to my business unannounced; without the landlord or my knowledge. They state that they're there to do an inspection of the fire protection systems. They look to see what you have, check a box and leave. Later on, you get a bill for $219.50. There was no service performed, just a visual of what fire protection systems were in the premises.
Think about this: If a fire protection company inspects 50 businesses per day per individual at $220 per inspection... Then, you can make $11,000 per day per employee doing an inspection. This is done while spending 5-10 minutes in each business! What a scam!!!
I've been a firefighter for over 25 years and have never heard of a company making these unannounced inspections.
