Bought .90c/H/SI3 diamond earings...but received .62c/I2/J color
|
I ordered stud earnings as a gift for my wife. They looked OK to the untrained eye, but I brought them to get appraised to make sure we were getting what was purchased. The appraisal was from a highly reputable GIA appraiser who we have used before. They confirmed the diamonds were actually .62carat, I2 and J color. VERY Different than what was advertised. Customer service was difficult to deal with, they demanded that I not have the diamonds removed from the settings or it would "void" the return warranty, and argued the weight could be because my jeweler did a poor calculation (redflag!). I returned them and after a week they said they were what I ordered. I spoke with a supervisor David who at first was helpful and agreed to look into further and sent me an email that the diamonds were less than what was ordered, but then wanted me to agree to a replacement set that could be as much as 2 color and clarity grades off, since they use the "EGL" grading system instead of GIA. I said I was OK w/ a 1-2 color difference and 1 clarity, per what I have read for comparing EGL to GIA. They never replied and that was on 12/1, I followed up on 12/9 but they still did not reply. FYI, I didn't see any representation anywhere on their website that their grading system was EGL (or GIA for that matter)... They did refund $679, but not the original $702 or shipping back I had to pay for, and I am out $80 for the appraisal.
