Genuine Scam Artists -- Crafty too
|
Received a call from this group earlier today. They said they had already sent us one toner earlier last week and it was the wrong one. They wanted to confirm the model number of our copier because they had gotten it wrong. The man sounded very sure of himself, so I gave it to him. He laughed and said "Oops. I wrote down 221, not 223." Then proceeded to tell me that he was going to fax over the order confirmation to me so that we could get our new toner tomorrow. He made it sound like it was all his fault and he was trying to cover his rear before his boss found out of the mistake. About a half hour later he called again and asked if I got the fax (I got tied up with work, so I forgot to look). He then gave me a new fax machine number to remit it to because he said that his other fax machine was not working. It had a 310 area code, when the original fax had a 949 area code. When I really looked at the form, I realized the company was not one I recognized. Our toner is licensed out to us by a local company that takes care of all the details, so this was very strange. Called my boss and sure enough, we had not ordered any toners (he almost always tells me about orders he places or asks me to order them, so I found this odd too). Finally pulled up Google and sure enough... Scam artists. Thanks to the company that is setting up this website. Very helpful!
