Review 5/19/2009

I really want to explain my first hand experiences with Cerritos Nissan, Service Advisor Felipe Lopez and Service Manager Ed Bowers to possibly forewarn customers of that dealership. My husband owns a 02 Altima that was having transmission problems. We took the car to our dealer but unfortunately the warranty had just recently expired. They recommended that a fluid flush, which would end us costing us $250, would fix the slipping in the transmission. That was completed on 5/5/09. By 5/9/09 we were back with the same problem. We received a phone call from Felipe telling us that the Valve Body needed to be replaced because it was clogging with oil and that they rec'd codes that the turbine sensor was malfunctioning. This job would cost us $1800 but they would partially credit us the flush by $100. We picked up the Altima on 5/16/09 and as soon as I drove off the freeway the transmission started slipping again! We had to have the car towed back to the dealer on 5/18 and again Felipe called saying that the new valve body was clogged again and that we needed a new transmission that would cost us $3700 and it was our only option.
When I called the Service Manager, Ed Bowers, to request a full refund he tried to make excuses about how the valve body can't be returned to the Manufacturer and that they were just following the book. Then he tried to tell me that we were advised that these recommendations might not fix the problem but only diagnose the problem further. I found that completely outrageous. Why would be pay $2000 on a car that's worth maybe $7,000 just to figure out what's wrong with it? Such a disclaimer should have been in writing if that was really the case. He said that he understood me but still wounldn't fufill my request for reimbursement. I found all of the Service Manager's excuses to be absolutely unacceptable.
Thankfully my Father-in-Law took care of the situation by getting higher management involved but only then we were fully reimbursed.
Dealerships are hurting for money right now. If your vehicle isn't under warranty I strongly advise you take your car to a trusted mechanic and get a second opinion if you don't feel it is right. Because of this horrible experience I will not be returning to Cerritos Nissan.
