My wife and I used AAA travel services to purchase a travel package. The agent directed us to a package from Pleasant Holidays. Our initial total cost was 2700.00, including airfare for 7 days 4 people. We paid an upgrade fee of 1300.00 for our 2 rooms to each have an ocean view. When we got there, we got 1 room with the view, and 1 with NO WINDOWS. Pleasant Holidays and AAA were no help in fixing the problem.
We later found out that Pleasant Holidays is a wholly owned subsidiary of AAA!!! They never even told us that when we purchased the package. It was a total conflict of interest. Further, in Pleasant Holidays fine print they say that even if they promise you, and you pay for an accommodation, that if you do not get that accommodation it the airline, hotel etc. fault, and not their and that they are not liable to credit the purchaser!
They told me that since that is their policy, they do not need to refund us. I then found out through the California Attorney General, who regulates "sellers of travel" which is what Pleasant Holidays is registered as, that the state civil code that governs sellers of travel states that if an accommodation is promised, and not delivered, the seller of travel must credit back the purchaser who did not get what was promised. Makes sense right? - well Pleasant Holidays totally ignored the law!
My recourse is to sue them, spending thousands of dollars on lawyer fees to get a recovery of 1300.00.
I will never use AAA travel services, or Pleasant Holidays - they are both unethical, provided poor customer service, and use deceptive tactics.
