Review 10/2/2007
|
We closed our loan with Aforma one week prior to my writing this review. I was refered to Aforma by my sister-in-law. She had found them through internet and phone calls. Her deal was so good, she was nervous until the day of signing. Everything went through for her as planned.
I contacted the man who handled her loan (steven Somogyi). The contract we had signed with our builder included an agreement from us to have the same company that was handling the construction loan do the long-term loan as well. We got a verbal commitment from that company to match any legitimate deal we could find. They agreed and said they would release us without penalty if we were to find a deal that was too good for them to match.
I got a good faith estimate from Steve at Aforma Financial. The bank here said the estimate was "out of [their] ballpark." They refused to match it. The agreed to release us. Through creative and barely legal ways, the bank proceeded to penalize us nearly a thousand dollars worth by passing additional fees through our builder.
Even with this penalty, we were still thousands of dollars better off by going with Aforma.
Steve's actual costs came in lower than the estimate (An estimate that was deemed out of the ball park of a competitive financial institution).
Further, Steve gave me a free 52 day rate lock. He then floated my rate down as the rates lowered. Just before final papers were drawn up, Steve (and this was something he was not bound to by any agreement), notified me that he was lowering my rate again because they had dipped even more. He could easily have earned more money by just giving me a good deal and not givning me an even better deal.
Finally, All parties involved (insurance, escrow, the builder, and ourselves) made it a point to tell me how on-the-ball Steve and his assistant (Michelle Gervais) were.
They were extremely fast in responding to my calls and questions. In conclusion, I felt like Aforma (Steve) made my personal interest his business interest. He could have made more money off of me than he did. My guess is that he has given up a few dollars now for multiple referals later. If that is his motivation, I hope he is well rewarded. I was treated so well and given such a good deal, I will refer anyone I know who is heading into a mortgage to Steve and Aforma.
