It was 3 days before my move when my company told me that I was being transferred to Oakland, CA for work and they gave me a list of moving companies that they had used for corporate relocations and that I should get at least 3 quotes out of the names on the list. The first 2 were national large van lines i.e North American Van Lines and Paul Arpin Van Lines and the next that I chose to get a quote from was ABC Moving and although I had heard of them before I knew that they weren't as large as the other 2 but I figured it was worth a shot since the Van Lines quoted me upwards of $8,000 and my company was only alotting $7,000 and the rest would be an out-of-pocket expense if it went over the $7,000. ABC Moving quoted me $6,000 for a full service move including packing, a shuttle fee in D.C and storage in transit if needed. I submitted the quote from ABC's and it was approved and I had asked a few other colleauges that had moved through them how it went and out of the 5 I had asked, 4 of them said great and 1 said good with a few issues but nothing of importance. I had a very good feeling about them and I dealt directly with one of the 2 owners Mark Rutenberg and he was up front and very honest about everything and pretty much mapped out the whole process for me. Once the contract was signed I gave them a 2 day window which they arrived early in the morning on the 1st day and sent 4 guys to pack, prep and load the truck in which they did a premium job of doing. Now, the day I requested for delivery was precisely 14 days later as I was being put up in corporate housing for a week and to my surprise it wasn't 14 days later, it was on the 15th day I was delivered which for me was terrific considering they had told me that there would be a several day variable as to when the delivery could be made and they basically hit it right on the head. Off loading couldn't have been easier and my price wound up being $6,300 which was $700.00 less than my company was paying so I divied up the balance by tipping the crew of 3 $233.00 each and they were so happy and thankful it seemed like nobody has ever tipped them before and I was shocked considering the amount of work they did and I am sure do for everyone. They did a terrific job and I would put them up against the big boys any day of the week.
